Daughters, Know Your Worth

Sometimes, I find myself thinking that the words that have been shouted at me in rage have been much more difficult to heal from than the physical injuries I have experienced.
When you hear those words ringing in your ears, it is time to remember what God says about you, not what men have told you.
You are, as all humans, the handiwork of an awesome God. Although the Bible refers to women as the "weaker vessel" it is not a reference to inferiority, or even lack of strength. It is in reference to how you are to be treated, as someone valuable. You are a priceless gift of God's Design.
No one can love me more than God does, and NO ONE should ever treat me as less valuable than he does.
How Are Men to Treat Women?
My husband is a natural protector. He volunteers with the church safety team and has been a volunteer firefighter since before he graduated high school.
When we were dating, I decided it was time for a serious conversation. With my history, I decided it was best to approach my feelings about marriage and relationships head on. When we were discussing what marriage and relationships should be,
I looked him directly in the eye and declared, "The Bible says that marriage is supposed to be a reflection of Christ and the church. You know that means that a man should literally be willing to lay down his life and die for his wife if that was necessary."
Without missing a beat, he answered, "Well, I'd do it for a total stranger, so I guess I would do it for you too."
It wasn't exactly the romantic declaration I was looking for, but I do know it's true.
The heart of this is that God desires for his daughters to be treated well. He loves us and values us. Therefore, he wants anyone who marries one of his daughters to have a heart that seeks to treat her with his love and wisdom.

You Are NOT Worthy Because of What a Man Says, You Are Worthy Because of What God Says.
There are three things that I feel abuse survivors need to embrace as truth. One is that I am not defective and what happened to me was not because there was some fatal flaw in me that caused the abuse. The second is that a man is responsible for his own anger, just as I am. Any man who feels that he wants to be with me should prove it to me by his actions. The Third is not to cast your pearls before swine. God says a good wife is of great value. Women are equated to jewels and deserve to be treated as such. To give yourself to an abusive man is the equivalent of throwing precious jewels to a pig. You wouldn't throw away something valuable. Don't throw yourself away. God says you are worth far more than these things.
